Note : At the European scale, spatial and temporal variation of forest condition can only be provided by means of systematic large scale monitoring (level 1). At this level, crown condition has been assesed annually on a transnational grid (16x16km). It is considered as one of the most obvious indicators but it does not permit conclusion on direct cause-effect relation ships. Forest condition
